So here we are on our second month of the year. The ‘New Year’s Resolutions’ global frenzy has died down; unfortunately the desire to fulfil them has died along with the frenzy. What happens is our systems “fall ill”, I don’t know whether it’s the fireworks or the overnight change of a year or any other reasons that aren’t relevant enough to mention…my point is, there is a seasonal fever that we suffer from as homos (sapiens, in case you were now thinking same-sex basis…then we not on a same page basis). This fever takes over us the first few days and sometimes weeks of the first month, and clearly this is a contagious condition because a majority gets it without understanding a few fundamentals about resolutions.
New Year's resolutions are commitments that you make to one or more of your personal goals, projects, or the reforming of a habit, and bear in mind that if you can’t make and keep a commitment to yourself you definitely can’t make one to any breathing or non-breathing species. A key element to a New Year's Resolution that sets it apart from other resolutions is that it is made in anticipation of the New Year and new beginnings.
With that being said, lets step into the mental lab and dissect this (watch you don’t cut yourself with the tools). Chances that a human being is reading this are pretty big-boned meaning chances that an animal is reading are rather slim (‘Hlasela mafutha for everyone’). Now, being a human being can be as easy as one makes it to be but the reality is it’s usually a struggle to gain and maintain alignment with core values, ethics and principles. We manage to convince ourselves that we can change deeply imbedded habits and patterns just by simply making new resolutions and goals only to find that old habits die hard (not necessarily habits with walking sticks), and that in spite of social promises and good intentions, familiar patterns carry over from year to year and I have noticed that as we grow older in life, years somehow seem to shorten (it’s a pity the word ‘Dwarfitication’ exists not) and New Year’s Day approaches with an ever-increasing tempo (one would swear there is Nitrous Oxide involved). The more mature we get, the more we realize that time is only relative; how we live means more than how long we live.
I’m sure you are familiar with the “Lifes a journey” phrase…whether you are or you aren’t, I confirm this phrase to be true. You are most certainly coming from somewhere, are obviously located somewhere and are definitely going somewhere. The problem is your scope is in VGA mode or just has some rather low mega-pixels because you don’t have a clear picture of where you want to go and therefore our resolves are effortlessly uprooted and soon enough we give up (ironic how when things are ‘DOWN’, we tend to give ‘UP’). Replacing a deeply imbedded bad habit with a good one takes deep understanding of self and of the principles and processes of growth and change (if Life’s diaper isn’t changed…well it gets messy).
Another underrated hindrance is not having a clear knowledge of who we are. We fail to see we are not one with our habits; The Lord God has conveniently equipped us with the power to make break them. Through our actions we write our life script, choose our course and control our destiny. Your destiny has a remote control…get pressing and have a year strategically stuffed with blessings.
